JACKSON, Miss. – Southeastern Louisiana closed its 2020-21 nonconference schedule on Tuesday with a 4-1 win over Jackson State at the JSU Tennis Courts.
The Lions improved to 7-13 overall with the victory, taking the doubles point and winning three of four singles matches that finished. Jackson State fell to 8-4 this spring.
On the No. 1 doubles court,
Putri Insani and
Ximena Yanez (7-5) handled the JSU pair of Noelle Frenzel and Nina Zhang, 6-1. SLU took a 1-0 lead thanks to a 6-2 win by
Flory Bierma and
Annemart Kleijn (7-8) over Sofia Beggiatto and Tyra-Nicole Whyte on No. 2.
Bierma (5-15) earned the only straight set singles win of the match on No. 3, sweeping past Frenzel, 6-4, 7-5. The host Lady Tigers countered with a three-set win at the bottom of the singles draw.
On No. 4, Yanez (4-6) won her second straight singles match, outlasting Iesha Shepard for a 6-1, 2-6, 6-3 victory.
Ariadna Perez (4-11) clinched the match for the Lions on court 5, rallying past Sherine Salem for a 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory.

Southeastern will battle Stephen F. Austin for a berth in the Southland Conference Tournament. First serve is scheduled for Friday at 1 p.m. at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.
