HAMMOND, La. – Southeastern Louisiana quarterback and Walter Payton Award finalist Cole Kelley added to his growing list of accolades on Tuesday, as he was named the Stats Perform FCS National Player of the Week in an announcement from Stats Perform.
 
Kelley was named Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Monday. Tuesday's honor marked the second time he has received National Player of the Week honors as a Lion, as he received the accolades on Nov. 11, 2019 after a 34-0 win at Central Arkansas.
 
Kelley capped a superb season with 418 passing yards and five total touchdowns in No. 15/17 Southeastern's 55-48 shootout loss at No. 17/18 Southern Illinois. He completed 34 of 42 (81 percent) passes, including 11 in a row in the second half, and two touchdowns, while also rushing for three scores.
 
The FCS passing leader connected with eight different receivers in his third career game over 80 percent with at least 10 completions. Saturday's performance marked his third game of the spring with more than 400 yards passing, as he threw for 300 or more yards in every game.
 
With the best passing numbers in the nation this spring, Kelley, who accounted for an FCS-best 27 total touchdowns (18 passing, seven rushing, two receiving) is considered a prime candidate for the Payton Award, given to the nation's top offensive player, which will be announced on May 15.
