HAMMOND, La. – Morgan Davis will continue her athletic and academic endeavors starting in the 2021-22 season as a member of the Southeastern Louisiana women's basketball program, SLU head coach
Ayla Guzzardo announced on Thursday.
Davis, a 6-4 center from Orlando, Florida, will have one year with Southeastern, as she comes to Hammond as a graduate transfer from Texas A&M. During her time as an Aggie, she was a middle blocker for the volleyball team.
"Morgan is a special young lady who will benefit our program on and off the floor," Guzzardo commented. "Her length and athletic ability enhances our post presence and brings us to another level. We are excited to bring Morgan down to Hammond and welcome her into our family."
Prior to enrolling at Texas A&M, Davis was the
Orlando Sentinel Girls Athlete of the Year due to her exploits on the basketball and volleyball courts at Bishop Moore Catholic High School. As a basketball player, she was a two-time District 5A Player of the Year and had several Division I scholarship offers before deciding to pursue volleyball collegiately.
As a senior at Bishop Moore, Davis averaged 17 points and 11 rebounds. On the volleyball court, she was an All-American and a National Senior Player of the Year finalist after helping her team to consecutive state championships in her final two prep seasons.
During her time in College Station, Davis played in 45 matches for the Aggie volleyball squad. She received the team's Most Improved Player of the Award as a freshman and Unsung Hero Award as a junior. She was twice named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll at Texas A&M.
Davis is the third new addition for the Lady Lions for the coming season. SLU signed a pair of local products – point guard Jade Brumfield (Hammond, Louisiana) and forward Presleigh Scott (Livingston, Louisiana) – last November.
The newest Lady Lions will be joining an ascending program, as SLU posted its first winning season since 2008-09 and earned its highest-ever finish in the Southland Conference this past season.
Southeastern returns its top eight scorers from last season's team, led by All-Southland performers
Morgan Carrier and
Hailey Giaratano. The Lady Lions will also benefit from the return of 2019-20 Southland Conference Freshman of the Year
Alexius Horne, who missed all of 2020-21.
