Â
HAMMOND, La.  – The Southeastern Louisiana women's soccer team opens the home portion of their schedule this weekend when they host Sam Houston Friday night at 7 p.m. and Stephen F. Austin Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. in Strawberry Stadium.
Â
The Lady Lions (1-2 Southland) look to rebound after a pair of road losses last weekend to Central Arkansas and a heartbreaker to Northwestern State (6-0, 4-0 Southland) Sunday in overtime, 1-0.
Â
SLU is led on the offensive end by sophomore
Mya Guillory. The Prairieville, Louisiana native leads the Lady Lions with a pair of goals on nine shots, six on goal. Southeastern is outshooting opponents through the first three games 30 to 29 and 16-12 on goal.
Â
Sam Houston (0-1) hasn't played since falling to league-leading Northwestern State (6-0, 4-0 Southland) Feb. 12 at home, 1-0. The Bearkats finished the 2019 season 7-11-1 overall and 5-5-1 in the Southland before falling in the conference tournament to Northwestern.
Â
The Bearkats are led by second team preseason All-Southland selection Kalynn Bickford. The sophomore from Mansfield, Texas finished the 2019 season with five goals and two assists for 12 points which led Sam Houston in both categories.
Â
The Lady Lions lead the all-time series over the Bearkats 9-7-3, including winning the last two matchups in Hammond. However, Sam Houston defeated SLU last year, 2-0, in Huntsville, Texas.
Â
Following Friday's matchup, Southeastern will take on Stephen F. Austin (5-2-2, 3-0 Southland) Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
Â
SFA has not allowed a goal in three conference matches defeating Central Arkansas, UIW and Abilene Christian all at home.
Â
The Lady 'Jacks are led by first team preseason All-Southland forward Katelyn Termini. The senior has scored five goals and added two assists including 22 shots for SFA, including a game winning goal against UIW in the 74
th minute of a 1-0-win Feb. 28.
Â
Junior Goalkeeper Madeline Talbot has 48 saves in nine matches for SFA. The second team preseason All-Southland selection also has four shutouts to her credit this season, including three in a row.
Â
SFA leads the all-time series over SLU, 20-11-9. But Southeastern picked up a victory last year on the road over the Lady 'Jacks, 2-1, as sophomore Ellie William scored the game winning goal in the 77
th minute.
