SLU Takes Down Nicholls, 5-2

Lions earn second straight victory

HAMMOND, La. – Southeastern Louisiana's Ximena Yanez and Putri Insani won in both singles and doubles play to lead the Lion tennis team to a 5-2 victory over Southland Conference foe Nicholls Friday afternoon at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.
 
SLU (5-11, 2-5 Southland) took the doubles point and won four singles matches to claim its second straight victory. Nicholls fell to 4-11 overall and 1-6 in league action.
 
Southeastern opened the match by taking the doubles point. On No. 3, Katya Cornejo and Ariadna Perez (4-2, 3-2 Southland) defeated the Colonel duo of Laura Lopez and Nikita Pinto, 6-1. Insani and Yanez (5-3, 1-0 Southland) clinched the doubles point with a 6-1 win over Carla Bouygues and Simona Maksimovic on No. 1.
 
In singles play, Insani (10-3, 5-1 Southland) extended her singles winning streak to seven matches with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Maksimovic on No. 1. On No. 5, Yanez (2-5, 1-0 Southland) took down Pinto, 6-0, 6-2.
 
Teodora Mitrovic (3-10, 1-6 Southland) clinched the match with her first conference singles win, defeating Lopez, 6-0, 6-2. SLU's Polina Sleptsova (3-9, 2-4 Southland) rallied for a 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 victory over Bouygues on No. 2 to close out the scoring for the Lions.
 
Up Next
Southeastern will close out its home stand on Sunday, hosting New Orleans at 11 a.m. at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.
