HAMMOND, La. – Southeastern Louisiana sophomore
Putri Insani extended her singles win streak to eight matches in a 6-1 loss to New Orleans in Southland Conference women's tennis action Sunday afternoon at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.
The Lions (5-12, 2-6 Southland) saw its two-match win streak snapped. UNO improved to 8-2 overall and 7-1 in Southland Conference play.
In a battle of two of the Southland's top singles players, Insani (11-3, 6-1 Southland) outlasted UNO's Ank Vullings (8-2, 6-2 Southland) on the top singles court. After cruising through the opening set, Insani shook off a tough second set for a hard-fought 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 victory.
New Orleans took the doubles point with wins on courts 1 and 3. In singles play, the Privateers clinched the match with straight-set victories on singles courts 2,3,4 and 6.
Insani's victory was one of two three-set decisions in singles play. On No. 5, UNO's Salma Abdelrahim rallied past Lion
Ximena Yanez for a 4-6, 6-3, 14-12 victory.
