HAMMOND, La.  – After two weeks off, The Southeastern Louisiana women's soccer team returns to action as they hit the road for their longest road trip of the season Friday at 5 p.m. against the University of Incarnate Word and Sunday at 1 p.m. against Abilene Christian.

Southeastern will make the 500-mile trip west to San Antonio, Texas to face UIW Thursday. Then will head 250 miles north to Abilene, Texas to face ACU following Friday's match. SLU will, then, make the return trip to Hammond from Abilene which is 650 miles.

The Lady Lions (3-2-1 Southland) haven't played since March 12 when they picked up a 2-1 home victory over McNeese. Sophomore Mya Guillory scored the game winning goal in the 73rd minute on a corner kick assist from Claire Huston as SLU remained unbeaten at home (2-0-1).

Guillory, out of Prairieville, Louisiana, is third in the Southland in shots with 20 and seventh in shots on goal per match (1.83). The St. Amant grad has recorded 10 points on the season which ranks third in the league.

SLU enters the weekend tied for fourth place with UIW in the conference standings at the halfway point of league play with the top eight seeds reaching the conference tournament. The Southland Tournament is scheduled for April 13-17 in Beaumont, Texas hosted by Lamar.

UIW (4-3-1, 3-2-1 Southland) enters Friday's match on the heels of back-to-back wins on the road over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Sam Houston March 12th and 14th.

The Cardinals feature a balanced offensive attack that includes four players with two goals on the season. Keely Ayala, Sophie Krall, Eve Clarkson and Hannah Walsh have all netted a pair for UIW. However, freshman Sierra Wannamaker leads the team with 28 shots and 13 on goal which ranks in the top 10 in the Southland in both categories.

"We are going to have to defend as a team from front to back (against Incarnate Word)," said fourth-year SLU head coach Chris McBride. "They have a lot of threats all over the field and they are always a dangerous team."

The Lady Lions lead the all-time series of UIW, 4-2-1. But the Cardinals picked up a win last year in Hammond, 1-0, on a penalty kick goal in the final seconds of the first half by Ayala.

Following Friday's match, SLU will head to Abilene to take on Abilene Christian (7-5-1, 3-3-0 Southland) Sunday at 1 p.m.

ACU, picked to finish second in the Southland preseason poll, has also won back-to-back matches entering the weekend. The Wildcats beat A&M-Corpus Christi and Sam Houston on the road back on March 14th and 16th.

The Wildcats are led by preseason first team All-Southland selection Christina Arteaga. The ACU forward is sixth in the Southland during league matches in shots (19) and fourth in shots on goal (12).

Abilene Christian has had the upper hand against SLU all-time leading 6-1. The Wildcats have also won four straight matches against the Lady Lions via shutouts, including a 1-0 win last year in Hammond. Southeastern's only win over ACU came in 2015 at home, a 1-0 victory.

ACU has been tough of late in the confines of Elmer Gray Stadium. The Wildcats are 15-3-3 since the start of the 2018 season at home, including a 1-0 win over SLU in 2018.

"They (ACU) play a very good possession style of play," said McBride.  "Their home field is a very good set up for the style of play they want to play against opponents."
