FRISCO, Texas – Due to the numerous difficulties of playing through the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2021 Southland Conference men's and women's basketball tournament, set for March 9-14 at the Leonard E. Merrell Center, will expand from eight to 10 teams, the league office announced Monday.
The Lions (7-15, 5-8 Southland) can clinch a spot in the tournament with a loss by either Central Arkansas (4-17, 3-10 Southland) or Lamar (6-17, 4-10 Southland) Monday.
UCA will host Stephen F. Austin (14-4, 10-2) Monday afternoon at 3 p.m. while Lamar hosts Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Monday at 7 p.m.
The Lady Lions (10-6, 8-4 Southland) clinched a spot in the tournament with their win over Northwestern State Saturday afternoon. The Lady Lions have positioned themselves to be the No. 2 seed in the Southland Tournament with wins in its final two games of the regular season, which would give SLU a bye into the semifinals.
