HUNTSVILLE, Texas – After 10 days off, the Southeastern Louisiana men's basketball begins the second half of the Southland Conference schedule Wednesday night on the road against league-leading Sam Houston at 6:30 p.m.

The Lions (6-11, 4-4 Southland) won back-to-back games prior to the 10-day break at home against Central Arkansas (3-14, 2-7 Southland) and New Orleans (4-12, 3-5 Southland). However, the next two weeks will be a challenge as the Lions will take on the league's top three teams including SHSU, Nicholls (10-6, 7-2 Southland) and Abilene Christian (16-3, 8-1 Southland)

But first, SLU will look for revenge against the Bearkats (14-6, 8-1 Southland) as the Lions dropped the conference opener to Sam Houston, 70-52, at home on Jan. 6. SLU fell behind to the Bearkats 21-4 to start the game and 32-13 late in the first half as SHSU controlled the game from the opening tip.

Wednesday's showdown features the Southland's top three scorers during league play. Sam Houston's Demarkus leads the conference averaging 19.9 points per game in nine Southland games. Southeastern's Keon Clergeot isn't far behind scoring 19.4 per Southland contest while SHSU's Zach Nutall, a preseason first team All-Southland selection, is scoring 19.1 per night.
Clergeot, a senior transfer from UMass, leads the Lions on the season averaging 15.4 points a night. The Winter Haven, Florida native also leads the Southland in free throw made with 104, the University of Incarnate Word's Keaston Willis is second with 83 made free throws.

The Lions remain the top offensive rebounding team in the conference averaging 12.5 a game led by junior Gus Okafor. The Baltimore, Maryland native leads SLU in rebounding averaging 6.5 rebounds a game, including 2.1 offensive rebounds. Okafor is also second on the team in scoring (11.3 ppg).

Sam Houston leads the all-time series over Southeastern, 34-16, including winning 9 of the last 10 dating back to March 6, 2014. The Lions' lone victory over the Bearkats during that stretch was in the 2018 Southland Conference Tournament semifinals, 89-79.

Southeastern's last win over the Bearkats on the road was Jan. 9, 2008 when SLU edged SHU, 61-58, in Huntsville.
