Lions Drop Second Straight in 79-61 Loss to Demons

SLU Shoots 34 Percent in Loss to Demons

NATCHITOCHES, La.  –  Northwestern State opened the game on a 10-0 run and led wire-to-wire as they defeated the Southeastern Louisiana men's basketball, 79-61, 79-61, Saturday afternoon at Prather Coliseum.
 
The Lions (7-15, 5-8 Southland) were led by senior Keon Clergeot and freshman Jamon Kemp with 11 points each while Gus Okafor had eight points and nine rebounds. However, SLU couldn't overcome the shooting struggles as they finished the game 22-for-64 (34 percent) from the field.
 
The Demons (9-15, 8-5 Southland) had four players score in double figures led by Trenton Massner with 15 points, Carvell Teasett had 12 and both Jamaure Gregg and Larry Owens each had 10 points.
 
Northwestern opened the game on a 19-5 run and extended their lead to 43-21 at halftime as the Lions shot just 9-for-31 in the first half.
 
In the second half, the Demons stretched their lead to as much as 31, 69-38, with 10:15 remaining as they picked up the season sweep over Southeastern. With the win, NSU has won seven of their last eight games.
 
NSU finished the game 25-for-53 (47 percent) from the field and shot 22-for-30 (73 percent from the free throw line. SLU was 5-for-20 from the three-point line and 12-for-21 from the charity stripe.
 
Next up, Southeastern will travel to Conway, Arkansas to face Central Arkansas (4-17, 3-10 Southland) Wednesday night at 7 p.m. in the Ferris Center. UCA is coming off an 84-82 win at home over league-leading Abilene Christian Saturday night.
