NATCHITOCHES, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana men's basketball team takes on Northwestern State Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. in Prather Coliseum looking to clinch a spot in the 2021 Southland Conference Tournament.

Southeastern (7-14, 5-7 Southland) currently sits in seventh place in the conference standings with just three games remaining. Following Saturday's game at Northwestern, the Lions will wrap up the regular season with road games against Central Arkansas Wednesday night and New Orleans Saturday, March 6.

The Lions will try to even the season series with the Demons after falling at home to Northwestern, 73-68, Jan. 23. SLU trailed by as many as 21 points, 34-13, in the first half before rallying to take the lead in the second half. However, with the Lions leading 66-64 with 2:58 remaining, the Demons went on a 7-0 run to seal the win. Southeastern was led by Gus Okafor with 20 points while Keon Clergeot added 16.

Nick Caldwell has been terrific of late for the Lions. The Geismar, Louisiana native is averaging 16.0 points and 7.2 rebounds over his last five games. The sophomore's production has been extremely efficient during the stretch shooting 19-for-35 (54 percent) from the field, 6-for-13 (46 percent) from the three-point line and nearly flawless at the free throw line (14-for-16).

Junior Joe Kasperzyk is coming off a career-high 25-point performance Wednesday night against McNeese. The Odessa College transfer shot 8-for-11 from the field, 6-for-7 from the free throw line and 3-for-5 from long range in the set back to the Cowboys.

The Demons (8-15, 7-5 Southland) feature a balanced attack offensively led by junior guard Trenton Massner averaging 13.8 points during Southland play. Freshman guard Carvell Teasett and senior forward Jamaure Gregg are each averaging over 10 points a game in league play. Teasett, a Baton Rouge, Louisiana native, scored a season-high 25 points Monday night in NSU's 86-80 win over Houston Baptist. The Demons, however, were defeated at home Wednesday night by Stephen F. Austin, 83-57.

The Demons lead the all-time series over the Lions 86-55 but SLU has won seven of the last eight including four in a row at Prather Coliseum. The two teams played an overtime thriller last year in Natchitoches with the Lions picking up the 84-81 win.
