Â
HAMMOND, La.  – The Southeastern Louisiana women's soccer team returns to action after two weeks off Friday night at 7 p.m. on the road against Central Arkansas and Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. at Northwestern State.
Â
The Lady Lions (1-0) are flying high after their season opening win in double overtime over Lamar, 3-2, on the road. Sophomore
Mya Guillory scored the golden goal in the 102
nd minute for her second goal of the match.
Â
SLU will be looking to snap a four-game losing streak to UCA Friday. The Bears (9-3-1, 0-1 Southland) defeated the Lady Lions Oct. 25, 2019 in Hammond, 2-1, on a pair of first half goals. Despite the loss, Southeastern outshot UCA 10-5. The Lady Lions' last win over the Bears was Oct. 23, 2015 which was the last of a seven-game winning streak for SLU over UCA.
Â
UCA, the 2018 Southland regular season champion, is led by sophomore midfielder Emma Hawkins. The Forney, Texas native leads the team with seven goals, 45 shots and 25 on goal. The preseason second team All-Southland selection has scored goals in six matches and has attempted at least one shot on goal in 11 of UCA's 13 matches.
Â
Following Friday's match, the Lady Lions will make the four-hour trip south to Natchitoches, Louisiana to take on Northwestern State (3-0, 1-0 Southland) Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. The Lady Demons, the 2019 Southland Tournament runner up, have wins under their belt over Louisiana Tech, ULM and Sam Houston.
Â
NSU has three defenders and a forward that were selected to the preseason All-Southland team. Defenders Nicole and Natalie Henry (sisters) were named to the first team while defender Hallie Field and forward Jalen Donaldson received second team honors.
Â
The Lady Demons were the Southland's top defensive team last year allowing just eight goals in 12 conference matches.
Â
"We are going to have to be very patient offensively," said SLU head coach Chris McBride. "And understand that we may only get a few opportunities throughout the whole game. We will need to stay composed as well so that when our opportunities do arise, we can make the most of them"
Â
SLU is 6-3-1 in their last 10 meetings with NSU but the Lady Demons have won three of the last four.
Â
The Lions have dropped the last two to Northwestern State by a 1-0 score. In 2018, the Lady Demons scored in the 48
th minute for the only goal of the match. Last year in Hammond, NSU was the beneficiary of an own goal by the Lady Lions in the 50
th minute.
