HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana women's tennis team opened its home schedule with a 6-1 non-conference victory over LSU Alexandria Sunday afternoon at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.
SLU (2-3) snapped a three-match losing streak by sweeping all three doubles matches and five of six singles matches. The match counted as an exhibition for the visiting Generals.
In doubles play, Southeastern's
Putri Insani and
Ximena Yanez (3-2) earned a 6-0 win over LSUA's Darjia Mladenovic and Carme Ibanyez on the No. 1 court. On No. 2, the Lion pair of
Flory Bierma and
Annemart Kleijn (2-3) blanked Niahm Packer and Alicia Romero, 6-0. SLU's
Katya Cornejo and
Polina Sleptsova (1-3) completed the sweep with a 6-1 win over Candela Bonivardi and Patricia Martinez on No. 3.
Insani (3-2) extended the lead to 2-0 with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Mladenovic on the No. 1 court. On No. 6, SLU freshman
Ariadna Perez (1-2) earned her first collegiate singles win with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Ibanyez to give SLU a 3-0 advantage.
Teodora Mitrovic (2-2) clinched the team win by defeating Packer, 6-2, 6-4, on No. 3. The other three singles matches went to three sets.
After LSUA earned its first point on No. 2, Bierma (2-3) made it 5-1 with a 6-2, 3-6, 6-0 win over Bonivardi on the No. 5 court. Kleijn (1-2) closed out the win with her first singles victory as a Lion, defeating Maria Alvarez, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3.
