Southeastern looks to rebound from a slow start to the pandemic-shortened 2020 season, finishing with a 6-10 record when the action came to a screeching halt.
The Lions return every member of the starting lineup and all three members of a dominant starting rotation.
Last season
Jacob Burke (.313),
Tyler Finke (.296),
Nick Ray (.262) and
Champ Artigues (.250) were the squad's leading hitters. Burke also led the team with two home runs and nine runs scored. Artigues was the RBI leader with 11.
Entering his eighth season with a 233-144 career record (.618 winning percentage), head coach
Matt Riser will run
Trey Shaffer (3-1, 1.23),
Will Warren (2-0, 1.90) and
Grant Upton (1-1, 1.46), respectively, out to the mound in starting roles.
The top returning hitters for the Delta Devils (0-15) are Aaron Brazelton (.300), Eric Johnson II (.182) and Nicholas Johnson (.170). Brazelton also led the team with seven RBIs and nine stolen bases.
Southeastern returns to action Thursday, opening a four-game series at Preseason No. 10-ranked Arizona. Games are scheduled for 7 p.m. (CST) Thursday and Friday, 2 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. Sunday. The Lions then return home to host Preseason No. 43-ranked Tulane in a midweek contest, March 3, for the annual Fireworks at the Pat promotion.
