HAMMOND, La. – Southeastern Louisiana juniors Preston Faulkner, Trey Shaffer and Will Warren were selected to represent the Lions on the Preseason All-Southland Conference baseball teams announced Wednesday by the league office. The preseason all-conference teams are presented by Hercules Tires.
 
Shaffer, the toughest pitcher to get a hit off of in the Southland last season, earned a spot on the first team. Faulkner and Warren received second-team honors.
 
A left-handed pitcher from Biloxi, Mississippi, Shaffer limited opposing hitters to a conference-low .113 batting average over 22 innings pitched in 2020. He scattered eight hits while compiling a 3-1 record and 1.23 ERA, striking out 32 batters. Shaffer ranked second in the Southland in wins, third in ERA and fourth in strikeouts.
 
Nearly as dominating a year ago, Warren was 2-0 with a pair of saves and a 1.90 ERA while working in a hybrid role. He struck out 30 batters, walking just four, in 23.2 innings pitched and limited opposing batters to a .176 batting average. The right-hander from Brandon, Mississippi ranked eighth in the Southland in strikeouts and ninth in ERA, wins and opposing batting average.
 
A burly first baseman from Denham Springs, Louisiana, Faulkner struggled at the plate in the abbreviated 2020 season, but earned All-Conference honors as a designated hitter during the Lions' last full season. As a sophomore he crushed a team-leading 17 doubles and 11 home runs, driving in 48 runs and scoring another 47. In 2019, Faulkner ranked sixth in the Southland in homers, seventh in doubles and eighth in both RBIs and runs scored.
 
Southland preseason all-conference teams are nominated and voted upon by the league's head coaches. Voting for one's own athletes is not permitted. Returning all-conference selections from the previous season are automatically named to the preseason teams and may be elevated to higher teams based on available positions.
 
UP NEXT 
Southeastern opens the 2021 season Friday, February 19 at home as part of the Hammond, America Classic at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field. The Lions are slated to face Mississippi Valley State, Feb. 19, at 6 p.m., South Alabama, Feb. 20, at 6 p.m. and Mississippi Valley State once again, Feb. 21, at 1 p.m.
 
Mississippi Valley State and South Alabama are also slated to face each other twice, Feb. 20 at 1 p.m. and Feb. 21 at 5 p.m., to round out the Hammond, America Classic.
