SLU Returns Home to Host William Carey

Lady Lions close out their nonconference home schedule on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the UC

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's basketball team will close out its 2021-22 nonconference home schedule on Saturday when it hosts William Carey at 1 p.m. in the University Center.
 
The game between the Lady Lions (3-5) and the visiting Lady Saders (6-3) will be televised on ESPN+ and can be heard at www.LionSports.net/ListenLive. Morgan Davis will be the Spotlight Player of the Game for the contest versus William Carey and the first 150 fans will receive a trading card featuring the Orlando, Florida native, courtesy of PRIDE.
 
At halftime of Saturday's game, the national championship banners for the Lionnettes and the SLU cheerleaders will be unveiled. Santa Claus is coming to Hammond, America for Saturday's game, as fans are encouraged to wear their Christmas garb and enjoy festive in-game promotions.
 
Southeastern is in the midst of a stretch that will see it play eight of nine games away from home with Saturday's game the Lady Lions' lone respite from the road. SLU picked up its second road win of the season last Friday, defeating Prairie View, 79-54.
 
In the win over the Lady Panthers, Hailey Giaratano led four Lady Lions in double figures with 18 points. Breonca Ducksworth and Morgan Carrier chipped in with 16 and 11 points, respectively, while Caitlyn Williams posted her second double-double of the season with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Cierria Cunningham dished out a game-high nine of Southeastern's season-high 25 assists in Friday's win.

Giaratano leads the Lady Lions with 9.9 points per game. The sophomore is joined by Williams (7.5 ppg), Carrier (7.4 ppg) and Ducksworth (7.0 ppg) among the team's scoring leaders. Giaratano's 3.3 assists per game also paces the squad.
 
SLU enters Saturday's game with a plus-2.4 rebounding margin. Williams leads the Lady Lions with 8.9 rebounds per game, followed by Giaratano (4.5 rpg), Cunningham (4.1 rpg) and Natalie Kelly (4.1 rpg).
 
Opponents are averaging 57.8 points and 16.5 turnovers per game versus the Lady Lions. Ducksworth and Cunningham each have a team-high eight steals, while Giaratano has blocked a team-high 10 shots.
 
Williams enters Saturday's contest ranked among the school's career leaders in rebounds (713, 7th) and blocked shots (84, 4th). Carrier enters Saturday's contest among the program's all-time leaders in three-point field goals made (143, 4th) and attempted (412, 5th).
 
Saturday's game will count as an exhibition for William Carey. The Lady Saders are paced in scoring by the duo of Rebekah Engle (14.0 ppg) and Lauren Rowley (11.0 ppg).
 
McKinley Seal leads William Carey with 6.2 assists per game, while Rowley has pulled down a team-high 5.2 rebounds per contest.
 
Southeastern is 15-1 all-time versus William Carey. The two teams last met in the 2014-15 season with SLU picking up a 62-35 home victory.
 
Following Saturday's game, SLU will take over a week off before traveling to Nacogdoches, Texas for a 2 p.m. game on Dec. 20 at Stephen F. Austin. The contest will be televised on ESPN+ and can be heard on www.LionSports.net/ListenLive.
