AMES, Iowa – The Southeastern Louisiana University men's basketball team will make their longest road trip of the season when they take on 11
th-ranked and undefeated Iowa State Sunday in Hilton Coliseum at 12 p.m. CT on ESPN+.
The Lions (4-7) will make the 1,000 mile journey Saturday morning for the matchup with the Cyclones (10-0) before taking on Iowa (7-3, 0-2 Big 10) Tuesday night at 7 p.m. in Iowa City, Iowa. Southeastern hasn't played at home since Nov. 22
nd when they defeated Ecclesia 121-79.
SLU is coming off a 720-mile trip to Louisville, Kentucky this past Tuesday where the Lions lost to the University of Louisville, 86-60. SLU's
Keon Clergeot scored a game-high 21 points but it wasn't enough to help the Lions overcome a 6-for-33 shooting night from the three-point line. Southeastern was also outscored, 44-17, in the paint falling to 1-5 on the current eight-game road swing which wraps up Tuesday.
SLU has featured a balanced offensive attack through 11 games, led by
Gus Okafor (12.8 ppg), Clergeot (12.5 ppg) and
Jalyn Hinton (11.5 ppg). Hinton also leads the Southland in blocked shots with 22 and is fourth in rebounding (7.5 rpg).
The tables have drastically turned for the Cyclones since last season which saw ISU finish with a 2-22 in 2020-21. Iowa State boasts one of the nation's top defenses as they enter Sunday's game against the Lions allowing just 57.1 points per game, 13
th lowest in the country. ISU also is holding opponents to 37.8 percent shooting which ranks 23
rd in the nation.
Iowa State is led by Izaiah Brockington (6-4, 190, G) in scoring, averaging 16.6 points per game, and rebounding (7.7 rpg). The senior is third in the Big 12 in both categories.
Historically, the Lions haven't fared well against the Big 12 as SLU is 0-15 all-time against the conference. However, Sunday is the first ever matchup between the Lions and ISU.
