HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's basketball team will open a stretch that will see it play eight of its next nine games away from home this week, traveling to Texas for a pair of nonconference road games.
Southeastern (2-4) will open the week's action on Wednesday with a 6:30 p.m. contest at TCU (2-3). Wednesday's game will be televised on ESPN+/Big 12 Now.
On Friday, Prairie View (1-5) awaits the Lady Lions at 5:30 p.m. A live video stream, provided by the hosts, will be accessible via the women's basketball schedule page at

SLU will be looking to bounce back from a pair of two-point home losses to UL Lafayette and Utah State last week. The Lady Lions fell, 54-52, to the Ragin' Cajuns on Wednesday and dropped a 73-71 decision to USU on Saturday.
Sophomore guard
Hailey Giaratano led the Lady Lions with a career-high 23 points in the loss to Utah State, while
Caitlyn Williams posted her first double-double of 2021-22 with 11 points and 10 rebounds. SLU could not overcome the 13 three-point field goals by the visiting Aggies, capped by the game-winning trey by Kaylin Randhawa with 2.7 seconds left.
Giaratano leads a balanced Southeastern attack with 8.0 points per game.
Chrissy Brown (7.2 ppg),
Daija Harvey (7.0 ppg), Williams (6.8 ppg) and
Cierria Cunningham (6.7 ppg) are the other top scorers for the Lady Lions. Giaratano also paces the squad with 3.1 assists per game.
Southeastern has been effective on the boards, holding a plus-1.8 rebounding margin on the season. Off back-to-back double-digit rebounding efforts, Williams leads the team with 7.8 rebounds per game and is ninth in school history with 689 career rebounds.
SLU has been active on defense, holding opponents to 58.6 points and forcing 17.3 turnovers per contest. Harvey and
Taylor Bell share the team lead with seven steals apiece, while Giaratano and
Natalie Kelly are the blocked shot leaders with eight andfive, respectively. Williams is fourth in school history with 84 blocked shots.
Williams is not the only Lady Lions listed among the program's career leaders.
Morgan Carrier is fifth in school history in both three-point field goals made (137) and attempted (397), while Harvey's 37.3 career three-point field goal percentage is good for fourth-best by a SLU student-athlete.
TCU has wins over Houston Baptist (78-48, Nov. 9) and Saint Mary's (72-68, Nov. 26) to its credit. The Horned Frogs' losses have come at the hands of Tulane (88-78 – 2 OT, Nov. 17), North Carolina (79-46, Nov. 21) and California Baptist (91-77, Nov. 27).
Lauren Heard leads TCU with 17.0 points, 8.6 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 2.0 steals per game. Yummy Morris is the Horned Frogs' second-leading scorer, averaging 10.0 points per contest.
Wednesday's game will mark the second meeting between the two schools. TCU earned a 112-62 victory over the Lady Lions in the 2017-18 season.
Prairie View, which plays Huston-Tulliston on Wednesday, has lost five straight after opening the season with an 83-70 win over Paul Quinn College on Nov. 9. The Lady Panthers have dropped decisions to Nebraska (102-47, Nov. 11), New Mexico (88-71, Nov. 16), Portland State (75-61, Nov. 20), Portland (80-54, Nov. 21) and Wichita State (86-71, Nov. 23).
Diana Rosenthal leads PVAMU with 14.2 points per game. Gerlyn Smith follows with 12.8 points and a team-high 7.8 rebounds per contest.
Friday will mark the 11
th meeting between SLU and Prairie View with the Lady Lions holding an 8-2 advantage. The teams last faced off in the 2000-01 season, which saw the Lady Panthers defeat Southeastern, 72-46, in Prairie View, Texas.
Following the trip, Southeastern will take over a week off before closing out its nonconference home schedule with a 1 p.m. contest versus William Carey on Saturday, Dec. 11 in the University Center. The game will be televised on ESPN+ and can be heard at
