HAMMOND, La. – Following a hard fought loss on opening night to Tulane, the Southeastern Louisiana University men's basketball team looks to bounce back as they face Southeastern Baptist College Friday night at 7 p.m. in the University Center in the home opener.
The Lions (0-1) pushed Tulane (1-0) for 40 minutes Tuesday night in the season opener as SLU led 39-34 five minutes into the second half. After withstanding a 13-0 run by the Green Wave, SLU trailed 64-63 with five minutes to go but couldn't close the gap as Tulane held on for a 70-67 win.
Southeastern will look to bring the hot shooting from beyond the arch home with them as the Lions drilled 10 three-pointers at Tulane.
Graduate Transfer
Ryan Burkhardt and junior
Joe Kasperzyk each had 15 points to lead the Lions in the absence of first team preseason All-Southland selection
Keon Clergeot. Clergeot played just 19 minutes in the loss as he was hit with 4 fouls, two in the first seven minutes of the first half and two in the five four minutes of the second half.
SLU will turn to an unfamiliar opponent Friday in Southeastern Baptist College (0-0), a NCCAA (National Christian Collegiate Athletics Association) Division II team. The Chargers' campus is located in Laurel, Mississippi roughly two and a half hours from the University Center.
Fans can watch Friday's game on ESPN+ with links to video and stats available on the Southeastern men's basketball schedule page at

Following Friday's home opener, SLU will begin preparation for Sunday's Maxwell Lieberman Classic matchup with Paul Quinn College at 1 p.m. in the University Center. The game takes on special meaning to SLU men's basketball associate head coach
Mark Lieberman. The third-year Lions' coach lost his four month old son back in 2012 due to premature birth complications. Fans are encouraged to donate to
