SLU Wins Third Straight, Snaps Jackson State Streak

JACKSON, Miss. – The Southeastern Louisiana University volleyball team snapped Jackson State's eight-match winning streak with a non-conference win, 25-19, 25-27, 25-14, 18-25, 15-13, Tuesday at the Lee E. Williams Athletic and Assembly Center.

SLU (7-12) extended its winning streak to three consecutive overall and four straight on the road, handing Jackson State (8-11) its first loss in a month.

A pair of kills each by Hannah Brewer and Karlee Wilkerson pushed the Lady Lions to an early lead in the opening set, 7-2, forcing Jackson State to call a timeout. The Lady Tigers bounced back to tie the set, 10-10, before Southeastern strung together four consecutive points.

Teams traded four-point runs and timeouts before Southeastern put the set away behind multiple kills each from Crispin Adams, Brewer, Cicily Hidalgo, Addie Vidrine and Wilkerson.

In the second set, an ace by Vidrine snapped a five-point run by Jackson State and put the Lady Lions back on track to wipe out a six-point deficit. SLU tied up the set, 16-16, on a Lady Tiger attack error.

With Southeastern reaching set point, 24-22, JSU called timeout. Coming out of the break, Jackson State picked up three consecutive point to regain the lead. A kill by Wilkerson snapped the skid and tied the set, 25-25, but the Lady Tigers scored the next two points to even the match.

A Vidrine kill and a service ace from Ariana Hebert helped Southeastern wipe out an early deficit in the third. Four more Lady Lion points put SLU up, 9-5, and forced JSU to call a timeout. Southeastern backed it up with another point to extend its lead.

Jackson State called timeout as the Lady Lion lead reached double digits, 19-9. Kills by Adams and Hidalgo helped Southeastern finish off the set, regaining its one-set advantage.

Teams traded points throughout the fourth until JSU scored the final six points to claim the set and send the match to a deciding fifth set.

SLU fell behind early in the fifth before rallying back to tie it up multiple times. Falling behind, 8-6, the Lady Lions called a timeout. An Adams kill, block and then ace helped push Southeastern in front for the first time in the set and force a JSU timeout.

The Lady Tigers responded with three straight to regain the lead, 12-11. A Hidalgo kill tied it up, 12-12, and two more following a JSU kill gave Southeastern the lead. Wilkerson finished off the match with a kill, her 13th of the contest.

Hidalgo generated a match-high 21 kills, along with 12 digs, to pick up her third consecutive double-double and ninth of the season overall. Gracie Duplechein (26 assists, 10 digs) recorded her 11th double-double.

Calli Collins led all players with a career-high 20 digs.
