Milton’s Second Half Goal Pushes Lady Lions Past Nicholls

SLU Senior Scores Game-Winner in Second Straight Match

THIBODAUX, La. – Mia Milton scored her third goal of the season to break a scoreless tie in the 57th minute for the Southeastern Louisiana University women's soccer team in Friday afternoon's 1-0 win over Nicholls on the road.

Milton's game-winning goal was her second straight as the senior netted the Lady Lions' (4-5-1, 3-2-1 Southland) game-winner against UIW in last Sunday's 2-1 win.

The Colonels (0-10, 0-6 Southland) held strong in the first half withstanding eight shots from the Lady Lions, including five on goal as the match was scoreless at halftime.

Early in the second half, the Lady Lions found an opening in the Nicholls defense. Junior Ellie Williams played a cross to the post to Mya Guillory. Guillory, the Prairieville, Louisiana native, then headed it to Milton who punched it in for the match's only goal. The assist was Guillory's conference-leading fourth of the season.

"Nicholls is a much improved team from last year," said SLU head coach Chris McBride. "They were disciplined and played well defensively all game. Their field is tough to create chances and they played to their strengths today. But I'm happy for us to get on the bus with a win on the way back to Hammond."

The Lady Lions outshot the Colonels 17-6 for the match, including 10 shots on goal to two. Southeastern also got to the edge frequently getting nine corner kicks while Nicholls finished with two.

SLU ran their record all-time against the Colonels to 28-1-1, including 14-0-1 in Thibodaux. The victory also marked the Lady Lions' sixth shutout in the last seven meetings against Nicholls.

Next up, the Lady Lions step away from conference play and take on Louisiana Tech (4-6-1, 0-3-0 Conference USA) Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. in Ruston, Louisiana.
