THIBODAUX, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana women's basketball team suffered its first Southland Conference loss of the season on Saturday, dropping a 76-63 decision at Nicholls in Stopher Gymnasium.
After starting 2-0 in conference play for the first time in program history, SLU (3-3, 2-1 Southland) was unable to end its six-game losing streak in the all-time series versus Nicholls (3-7, 2-1 Southland).
Morgan Carrier led four Lady Lions in double figures with 14 points. The senior made two three-point field goals moving into 10
th place on the school's career list with 101 three-point field goals made.
Carrier was joined in double figures by
Breonca Ducksworth (13 points),
Daija Harvey (11) and
Jaylen Huderson (10). Huderson and
Hailey Giaratano shared team-high honors with five rebounds each, while
Chrissy Brown dished out a game-high six assists.
Harvey and Huderson sparked SLU off the bench on both sides of the floor. Harvey led Southeastern with four steals, while Huderson blocked two shots.
Southeastern had no answer for Nicholls' Chelsea Cain, who finished with 26 points and 12 rebounds. Adrian Mann added 19 points off the bench, while Bryanna Washington chipped in with 11 points for the Colonels.
Nicholls held a 38-36 lead after an evenly-played opening half. The Colonels took control of the game by limiting Southeastern to 10 points in the third quarter and took a 55-46 advantage into the final quarter.
SLU opened the final period with an 8-2 run, as a Harvey free throw cut the lead to 57-54 with 8:02 left. However, Nicholls came back with an 11-0 run, as a Cain basket put the Colonels ahead, 68-54, with 5:05 remaining. SLU would get no closer than 10 the rest of the way.

Southeastern will conclude its three-game Southland road swing next Saturday, traveling to Abilene Christian for a 1 p.m. Southland contest. The game will be televised on ESPN+.
