THIBODAUX, La.  –  Nicholls had four players score in double figures on their way to the win over the Southeastern Louisiana men's basketball team, 87-67, Saturday night at Stopher Gymnasium.
 
The Lions (2-9, 0-2 Southland) were led by senior 
Keon Clergeot who tied a career-high scoring 25 points on 7-for-16 shooting and 7-for-8 from the free throw line. Junior 
Gus Okafor added 14 points, three steals and two blocked shots to pace the Lions.
 
The Colonels (4-5, 2-1 Southland) got 17 points each from Najee Garvin and Ty Gordon. Kevin Johnson, a second team preseason All-Southland selection, chipped in with 15 while Andre Jones added 10.
 
SLU found themselves in an eight-point hole with 11:43 left in the first half, 22-14. However, the Lions battled back, going on a methodical 11-2 run over the next six minutes giving Southeastern a 25-24 lead at the 5:43 mark. The Colonels struck with a run of their own storming on a 15-2 burst taking a 40-27 lead with 2:13 left in the first half. Nicholls led 44-32 at halftime.
 
In the second half, the Colonels stretched the lead to 21, 63-42, with 12:22 left as they would pull away for the win and their fourth straight over the Lions.
 
Southeastern finished the game 18-for-57 (31 percent) from the field while Nicholls was 34-for-63 (54 percent). The Colonels outrebounded the Lions, 46-28.
 
Despite the result, the Lions shot well from the three-point line and free throw line. SLU drilled eight three-pointers and finished the game 23-for-33 (70 percent) from the charity stripe.
 
Next up, the Lions will return home to face Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (3-6, 0-0 Southland) Wednesday night at 7 p.m. in the University Center. SLU and A&M-Corpus Christi were scheduled to play Jan. 2 but the game was postponed due COVID-19 protocols with the Islanders' program.
