Southeastern Hosts New Orleans to Continue Home Stand

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana women's basketball team will continue its six-game home stand on Saturday, hosting New Orleans at 1 p.m. in the University Center.
 
Sponsored by North Oaks Health System, the game between the Lady Lions (4-6, 2-4 Southland) and the visiting Privateers (4-7, 1-4 Southland) will be televised on ESPN+ and can also be heard on KSLU-FM (90.9), online at www.LionSports.net/listenlive and via the Lions Gameday Experience and TuneIn Radio apps.
 
Alexius Horne will be Saturday's Spotlight Player of the Game. The first 150 fans will receive a trading card featuring the Baton Rouge, Louisiana native courtesy of PRIDE.
 
Southeastern will be looking to bounce back from a tough 60-54 loss to Central Arkansas on Wednesday. SLU shot 80 percent (8-for-10) from the floor in the final quarter, but could not overcome shooting 50 percent (11-for-22) from the free throw line and being outscored, 34-16, in the second and third quarters.
 
The loss spoiled a career night for senior wing Morgan Carrier. The New Iberia, Louisiana native scored a career-high 25 points, sinking 8-for-10 field goal attempts – including 5-of-7 from behind the arc.
 
Carrier was one of two Lady Lions to score in double figures. Natalie Kelly narrowly missed her first double-double in a Southeastern uniform, contributing 10 points and a game-high nine rebounds. Breonca Ducksworth and Hailey Giaratano added eight points apiece for SLU.
 
SLU is averaging 70.2 points per game heading into Saturday's contest. Carrier leads the team with 14.2 points per game, followed by Cierria Cunningham (10.5 ppg), Giaratano (9.6 ppg) and Ducksworth (9.3 ppg). Ducksworth leads the team with 3.2 assists per game, while Cunningham is averaging 2.7 assists per outing.
 
Carrier leads the team with 2.6 three-point field goals per contest. She has moved into sixth place on the school's career list with 116 career three-point field goals made.
 
On the boards, SLU heading into Saturday's contest with a minus-3.8 rebounding margin. Kelly has a team-high 6.4 rebounds per game, while Brown is pulling down boards at a 5.5 per game clip.
 
Defensively, SLU is yielding 67.9 points per game and committing 18.9 turnovers per contest. Ducksworth paces the team with 2.2 steals per game.
 
New Orleans snapped a four-game losing streak and earned its first Southland victory of 2020-21 with a 65-50 victory at Northwestern State on Wednesday. Dionjhae Thomas leads the Privateers with 10.8 points and 2.9 assists per game, followed by the trio of Mia Deck (9.9 ppg), Mary Delgado (9.2 ppg) and Jada Duncantell (9.0 ppg). Erin Randle's 6.2 rebounds per contest paces UNO.
 
Saturday will be the 50th meeting between the in-state and league rivals, as New Orleans holds a 27-22 advantage. The teams split the season series in 2019-20 with each winning on its respective home court. SLU and UNO were set to tip-off in the first round of the Southland Conference Tournament last March when the COVID-19 pandemic canceled the postseason.
