HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana women's basketball team will continue its six-game home stand on Wednesday, welcoming Central Arkansas for a 5:30 p.m. Southland Conference contest in the University Center.
The game between the Lady Lions (4-5, 3-3 Southland) and the visiting Sugar Bears (3-10, 1-4 Southland) will be televised on ESPN+ and can be heard on KSLU-FM, online at
www.LionSports.net/listenlive and via the Lions Gameday Experience and TuneIn Radio apps.
Jaylen Huderson will be Wednesday's Spotlight Player of the Game. The first 150 fans will receive a trading card featuring the Slidell, Louisiana native courtesy of PRIDE.
Southeastern snapped a three-game losing streak on Saturday with a dominant 87-52 victory over Northwestern State.
Cierria Cunningham led SLU with 25 points – the most scored by a Lady Lion in a game this season.
Morgan Carrier chipped in with 16 points, while
Chrissy Brown posted the first double-double of 2020-21 for Southeastern, recording 14 points and 11 rebounds apiece.
Cunningham and
Breonca Ducksworth led the Lady Lions with five assists and four steals apiece, while all nine active SLU players scored in a balanced effort.
Southeastern made 56.4 percent (31-for-55) of its field goal attempts – including 59.1 percent (13-for-22) from three-point range. SLU tied a season high with its 13 treys, as Carrier (4-for-6),
Daija Harvey (3-7),
Hailey Giaratano (2-4), Brown (2-3) and Cunningham (2-2) all had the touch from behind the arc. SLU held Northwestern State to 36.7 percent (18-for-49) shooting and forced 23 Lady Demon turnovers.
SLU is averaging 72.0 points per game heading into Wednesday's contest. Carrier leads the team with 13.0 points per game and is joined in double figures by Cunningham (11.6 ppg). Giaratano (9.8 ppg) and Ducksworth (9.4 ppg) are the other top scorers. Ducksworth (3.3 apg) and Cunningham (2.8 apg) double as the team's top facilitators.
Carrier has done much of her damage from long range, averaging 2.3 treys per outing. With 111 career three-point field goals, the New Iberia, Louisiana native is seventh on the program's all-time leaderboard.
Southeastern is averaging 35.1 rebounds per contest. Brown (5.9 rpg) and
Natalie Kelly (5.8 rpg) are the most productive Lady Lions on the boards.
Opponents are averaging 68.8 points and committing 19.2 turnovers versus Southeastern. Ducksworth paces the roster with a team-high 2.4 steals per contest.
Central Arkansas comes to town looking for its first Southland road win of 2020-21. On Saturday, the Sugar Bears dropped a narrow 60-58 decision at Abilene Christian.
Jalisa Outlaw leads UCA with 13.2 points per game. Lucy Ibeh joins Outlaw in double figures (10.9 ppg) and leads the team with 6.9 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game. Tori Lasker is team's top playmaker, averaging 2.8 assists per contest.
Southeastern is 10-18 all-time versus Central Arkansas. SLU has won the last three meetings in Hammond.
