Southeastern Closes Southland Road Swing at ACU

Lady Lions, Wildcats tip off on Saturday at 1 p.m. on ESPN+

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana women's basketball team will close its three-game Southland Conference road swing on Saturday, traveling to Abilene Christian for a 1 p.m. contest.
 
The game between the Lady Lions (3-3, 2-1 Southland) and the host Wildcats (8-2, 1-0 Southland) will be televised on ESPN+.
 
After starting the Southland Conference season 2-0 for the first time in program history, SLU suffered its first league loss on Saturday, dropping a 76-63 decision at Nicholls.
 
Morgan Carrier led Southeastern with 14 points in the loss. Carrier was joined in double figures by Breonca Ducksworth (13 points), Daija Harvey (11 points) and Jaylen Huderson (10 points). Chrissy Brown led the Lady Lions with four assists, while Huderson and Hailey Giaratano shared team-high honors with five rebounds.
 
Harvey and Huderson also were the defensive standouts for the Lady Lions in Saturday's loss. Harvey finished with a game-high four steals, while Huderson led SLU with two blocked shots.
 
Southeastern is averaging 71.2 points per game heading into Saturday's game. Carrier leads the team with 11.2 points per game, while Giaratano (10.8 ppg) and Ducksworth (10.0 ppg) also boast double-digit scoring averages. Cierria Cunningham (9.5 ppg) and Huderson (8.3 ppg) round out the team's top five scoring averages.
 
Ducksworth leads the team with 3.0 assists per game, while Carrier has connected on a team-high 11 three-point field goals. Carrier's 101 career treys ranks her 10th on the school's career three-point field goals made leaderboard.
 
Ducksworth also paces a Lady Lion defense that is yielding 69.5 points and forcing 18.7 turnovers per outing. The Taylorsville, Mississippi native is averaging a team-high 2.3 steals per contest.
 
Abilene Christian opened its Southland Conference schedule with a 73-51 victory at Texas A&M-Christi on Saturday. Saturday's game was ACU's first since Dec. 20.
 
Alyssa Adams (16.5 ppg, 8.5 rpg) and Anna McLeod (16.0 ppg) are the top scorers for the Wildcats. Madi Miller (10.1 ppg) gives ACU a third double-digit scorer and shares the team assist lead with Kamryn Mraz, as both are averaging 3.7 assists per game for an Abilene Christian offense that has averaged 81.7 points per game.
 
Southeastern is 3-10 all-time versus Abilene Christian. ACU has won the last three meetings and hasn't lost to the Lady Lions in Abilene.

Southeastern will open a six-game home stand on Wednesday, Jan. 20, hosting McNeese at 7 p.m. in the University Center. The game will be televised on ESPN+.
 
Daija Harvey will be Wednesday's Spotlight Player of the Game. The first 150 fans will receive a trading card featuring the Donaldsonville, Louisiana native courtesy of PRIDE.
