NEW ORLEANS, La. – After back-to-back wins, the Southeastern Louisiana men's basketball team eyes a third straight win Saturday in the season finale against the University of New Orleans in Lakefront Arena at 6 p.m.
                                                                                                      Â
The Lions (8-22, 5-14 Southland) enter Saturday's game following a pair of home wins over Northwestern State, 95-92, and the University of Central Arkansas, 69-65, in route to winning back-to-back games for the first time this season.
Â
In Wednesday's victory over UCA, the Lions were led by
Ty Brewer (6-7, 205, F) with 19 points and 10 rebounds as the sophomore recorded his ninth double-double of the season. Southeastern also had 14 steals and scored 28 points off turnovers on their way to the win.
Â
Brewer, a Meridian, Mississippi native, leads the Lions in scoring (15.1 ppg) and rebounding (7.8 rpg) following back-to-back double-doubles against Northwestern State (18 points and 13 rebounds) and UCA.
Â
Junior
Brandon Gonzalez continues his torrid pace after scoring 16 points against UCA. The junior from Punta Gorda, Florida is averaging 21.2 points per game in the last four games.
Â
SLU senior
Von Julien (6-1, 170, G) will play his final game for the Lions Saturday. The Reserve, Louisiana native has played in 61 career games with 61 starts for Southeastern and is ninth in assists in SLU program history with 276.
Â
"Von epitomizes every core value our program stands for," said SLU head basketball coach
David Kiefer. "He's a leader, a great teammate and has been invaluable to me as a first year head coach. He not only believed in our culture from day one, but he has helped to infuse that culture into each and every player on this team."
Â
Julien has also scored 448 points (7.3 ppg) for his career. The Southland leader in assists this year with 140, Julien has accumulated 68 steals in his career.
Â
UNO (8-21, 4-15, Southland), the preseason Southland Conference favorite, is heading in the opposite direction following three straight losses. The Privateers were defeated Wednesday night on the road by Northwestern State, 95-73.
Â
Despite the tough stretch, the Privateers have one of the most dynamic offensive weapons in the conference in senior Bryson Robinson. The senior is third in the Southland in scoring averaging 18.1 points per game along with 85 three-pointers made.
Â
Saturday marks the second matchup of the season between the two teams. The Privateers defeated the Lions, 84-73, Feb.1 at the University Center largely because of 28 points from Robinson including eight three-pointers. UNO leads the all-time series over SLU, 14-7.
