HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana baseball team officially opens the 2020 season, while the basketball, softball, tennis and track teams will also be in action during this week in Southeastern Athletics.

Matt Riser's squad opens its campaign on the road. The Lions travel to UL Lafayette for a 6 p.m. contest on Friday. On Saturday, SLU and Louisiana Tech meet in Lafayette for a 6:30 p.m. contest.
The Southeastern men's basketball team (6-18, 3-9 Southland) will open the week at home, hosting Sam Houston State for a 7 p.m. contest in the University Center. Wednesday will also feature a Cane's Challenge. If the Lions score 70 or more points versus the Bearkats, fans can redeem their game ticket or student coupon at their local Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers for a free combo with the purchase of another of equal or greater value.
On Saturday, the Lions head to Nicholls for a 3 p.m. league contest in Thibodaux.
The red-hot SLU women's basketball team (10-11, 7-5 Southland) will take its five-game winning streak – its longest Southland Conference streak since the 2006-07 season – on the road this week. SLU heads to Sam Houston State for a 6:30 p.m. game on Wednesday, while Nicholls awaits the Lady Lions on Saturday at 1 p.m.
The Southeastern softball team (5-0) carries a five-game winning streak of its own into the week. On Wednesday, SLU closes a six-game home stand with a 6 p.m. game versus UAB at North Oak Park. The first 75 fans through the gates will receive a "Lion Up or Leave" rally towel to wave when the Lady Lions hit a home run throughout the season. Celebrate Valentine's Day early at North Oak Park with a couple's ticket as the Lady Lions host the Blazers. Two general admission tickets will be available for $8 and reserved chair backs will be available for $15.
The Lady Lions then head to Gainesville, Florida to compete in the Bubly Invitational hosted by Florida. On Friday, Southeastern faces North Dakota State at 8 a.m. and Florida A&M at 10:30 a.m. SLU takes on Longwood at 3:30 p.m. and FAMU at 6 p.m. on Saturday. On Sunday, the Lady Lions match up with the host Gators at 10:30 a.m.
The Lion tennis team (4-1) has won four straight matches heading into its final two pre-Southland Conference matches of the spring. On Thursday, SLU hosts UL Lafayette at 4 p.m. at the Southeastern Tennis Complex. Southeastern closes the week with a Sunday match versus Wyoming in McComb, Mississippi.
The SLU men's and women's track and field teams will continue preparations for next month's Southland Conference Indoor Championships. On Friday and Saturday, Southeastern will be in Birmingham, Alabama to compete in the Samford Open.
