Box Score 3 YOUNGSVILLE, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana softball team closed out a perfect week at the Mardi Gras Mambo with three wins this weekend at the Youngsville Sports Complex.
Southeastern (12-3) earned a 9-4 win over Alcorn State to open Saturday's action, before securing a 14-6 victory over Mississippi Valley State in the nightcap. On Sunday, SLU closed out the tournament with a 3-1 victory over ULM.
In the victory over Alcorn State, SLU stole 10 bases – led by
Aeriyl Mass' four swipes – on the way to the win.
Madisen Blackford and
Audrey Greely each drove in two runs for Southeastern, while
Tanner Wright (1-0) held the Lady Braves to four hits in 6.1 innings of work to earn her first win of the season.
Greely and
Kelci Bodin collected three hits apiece to fuel a 16-hit SLU attack in the win over MVSU. Greely drove in five runs, while Blackford and Bodin had two RBI each.
Sophie Hannabas (2-0) and
Alley McDonald allowed four hits in 5.1 innings of relief for the Lady Lions.
In a battle of two teams that hadn't suffered a loss in the tournament, SLU used a strong pitching performance to take down the Warhawks.
Heather Zumo (2-1) didn't allow an earned run in 4.1 innings of work, then
MC Comeaux threw 2.2 innings of shutout relief to earn her first save of the season.
Ali McCoy,
Cameron Goodman and Blackford all drove in runs to help the Lady Lions to their fourth straight win.

Southeastern will compete in the Reveille Classic this weekend, hosted by Texas A&M. On Friday, SLU will take on Kansas at 3 p.m. and Texas A&M at 5:15 p.m. The Lady Lions face Kansas at 11 a.m. and Texas A&M at 1:15 p.m. on Saturday. The games versus the host Aggies will be broadcast on SEC Network+.
Saturday – Game One – Southeastern Louisiana 9, Alcorn State 4
Southeastern sent 11 batters to the plate in the bottom of the third inning to break a scoreless tie. Blackford singled home Mass and
Lindsey Rizzo to open the inning's scoring.
Karlee Kraft and
Briahna Bennett each drove in runs, while Greely had a two-run single. Another run came home on a passed ball and Mass stole home to cap an eight-run frame for SLU, giving the Lady Lions an 8-0 lead.
Southeastern added to its lead in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Caroline Manzer singled home
Cameron Beal to stake SLU to a 9-0 advantage.
Alcorn State scored four run in the top of the fifth inning to avoid the mercy rule and the shutout. Wright would not let the Lady Braves get any closer, retiring Alcorn in order in the final two innings to highlight a nine-strikeout performance.
Saturday - Game Two – Southeastern Louisiana 14, Mississippi Valley State 6 (6 Innings)
Mississippi Valley State took advantage of a pair of Lady Lion errors to take the lead in the top of the first inning. Southeastern faced a 3-0 deficit in its first at-bat.
SLU wasted no time taking the lead in the bottom of the first inning. Mass and Rizzo opened the inning with consecutive infield singles, then Blackford cleared the bases with a three-run triple. Blackford tied the score when she scored on a Bennett sacrifice fly. A two-run single by Bodin put SLU ahead, 5-3.
MVSU tied the score with two runs in the top of the second inning, but Southeastern took the lead for good in the bottom of the third, as a two-run triple by Greely scored Bodin and Kraft to give the Lady Lions a 7-5 lead.
Blackford doubled and scored on an RBI groundout by Kraft in the bottom of the fourth inning, while Bodin scored on a Mass sacrifice fly to push the Southeastern advantage to 9-5 in the bottom of the fifth inning.
After MVSU scratched across a run in the top of the sixth, SLU ended the game in the bottom of the frame. A bases loaded triple by Greely plated the inning's first three runs, then Goodman singled home Greely. Goodman would score the run that clinched the victory, hustling home from second after Mass beat out an infield single.
Sunday – Game One – Southeastern Louisiana 3, ULM 1
ULM took a 1-0 lead versus Zumo in the top of the first, as Korie Kreps singled and scored on an RBI base knock by Jessie Watts.
Southeastern answered in the bottom of the second inning. Kraft roped a double over Kreps' head in right field, then scored when McCoy flared an RBI single down the right field line. McCoy would later come home on a sacrifice fly by Goodman to put SLU ahead, 2-1.
The Lady Lions padded their lead in the bottom of the third inning. Rizzo reached on an error to open the frame, then came all the way home when Blackford laced a double into the left centerfield gap to stretch the SLU lead to 3-1.
ULM put a pair of runners on in the fourth inning, but a sliding catch by Mass in left field kept the Warhawks off the board. Comeaux relieved Zumo in the fifth, recording the final two outs of the frame to protect the lead.
ULM mounted one last threat in the top of the seventh inning, as a double by Alysia Anderson just out of the reach of a diving Greely brought the tying run to the plate with one out. Comeaux retired Kennedy Page and Kreps to close out the victory and earn her first collegiate save.
