GAINESVILLE, Fla. – An eight-run first inning was too much for the Southeastern Louisiana softball team to overcome in a 13-1 loss to No. 8 Florida on the final day of the UF Bubly Invitational Sunday at KSP Stadium on the University of Florida campus.
Southeastern fell to 8-3 overall with Sunday's loss. The host Gators improved their record to 10-1 in 2020.
Kelci Bodin led the offensive attack for SLU with a 2-for-2 performance and her first home run as a Lady Lion.
Madisen Blackford was also 2-for-2 at the plate for SLU.
Florida sent 13 batters to the plate in the bottom of the first inning to take control of the game. The nationally-ranked Gators added two runs in the third and three more in the fourth to earn the mercy-rule victory.
Ali McCoy and Bodin were stranded after consecutive one-out singles in the top of the second inning. The first three batters reached in the third for SLU, but the Lady Lions again could not scratch out a run.
Bodin finally got Southeastern on the board in the SLU fourth. The New Iberia, Louisiana native cleared the left centerfield fence to avoid the shutout. However, she would be the last Lady Lion to collect a hit in the remainder of the mercy-rule loss.
