YOUNGSVILLE, La. – Three Southeastern Louisiana pitchers combined to hold Middle Tennessee State to five hits, as the Lady Lions opened the Mardi Gras Mambo with a 5-0 shutout victory over the Blue Raiders Friday afternoon at the Youngsville Sports Complex.

MC Comeaux (3-0) threw five scoreless innings to remain unbeaten in the circle in her debut season. Alley McDonald and Heather Zumo each tossed scoreless frames for SLU.

Karlee Kraft sparked the Southeastern offense with her second home run of the season. Kelci Bodin added two hits, including a double, while Madisen Blackford drove in a run for the Lady Lions.

SLU (9-3) took the lead in the bottom of the first inning. Aeriyl Mass drew a leadoff walk, stole second and scored on a MTSU error to stake the Lady Lions to a 1-0 advantage.

The Lady Lions busted the game open in the bottom of the third inning with a two-out rally. Lindsey Rizzo singled, stole second and scored on an RBI single by Madisen Blackford. Blackford would score when Ella Manzer reached on a two-base Blue Raider error. Kraft then cleared the bases with a two-run shot over the left field fence that gave SLU a 5-0 cushion.

Working with a comfortable lead, Comeaux threw a hitless fourth and fifth inning to maintain the advantage. McDonald worked around a couple of two-out hits in the sixth, then Zumo tossed a 1-2-3 seventh to secure the victory.
