HAMMOND, La. –
The Southeastern Louisiana men's basketball team will face Sam Houston State University for the second time this year Wednesday night in the University Center at 7 p.m. in search of redemption.

The Lions (6-18, 3-10 Southland) lost to Sam Houston, 67-62, Jan. 8 in Huntsville, Texas. SLU had a 15-point first half lead over the Bearkats and led 38-25 at halftime. SHSU rallied, despite a season-high 12 three-pointers by the Lions, outscoring SLU 42-24 in the second half. Sophomore Ty Brewer led the Lions with 18 points including four three-pointers and grabbed seven rebounds.

Wednesday will also feature a Cane's Challenge. If the Lions score 70 or more points versus the Bearkats, fans can redeem their game ticket or student coupon at their local Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers for a free combo with the purchase of another of equal or greater value.

SLU enters Wednesday's game looking to snap a four-game losing streak following losses last week to Houston Baptist at home, 79-76, and on the road to University of Incarnate Word, 82-75, in overtime.

The Bearkats (15-9, 8-5 Southland) come in with a three-game losing streak of their own. SHSU, the reigning Southland Conference regular season champions, fell last week at UIW, 72-71, in overtime and at Nicholls, 88-82. Sam Houston also dropped a tough one to league-leading Stephen F. Austin (21-3, 12-1 Southland) on Feb. 1 at home, 81-76.

SHSU is led by sophomore guard Zach Nutall (6-3, 185, Bryan, Texas) in scoring (14.9 ppg) while preseason first team All-Southland selection Kai Mitchell (6-7, 245, F, Jr.) is right behind him averaging 14.1 points per game.

The Bearkats lead the all-time series over the Lions, 32-16, including winning three of the last four. SLU defeated the Bearkats in the 2018 Southland Conference Tournament semifinals, 89-79.

Fans can follow the play-by-play of the game on 90.9 FM KSLU. The Southeastern Sports Network will offer a free video stream of Saturday's game.
