HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana women's tennis team opened the home portion of its 2020 spring schedule with a 4-0 victory over Jackson State in nonconference action Saturday afternoon at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.
The Lions (1-1) evened their record thanks to a pair of doubles wins and three singles victories. Jackson State fell to 3-3 this spring with Saturday's loss.
"This was a good win for us today against a Jackson State team that will compete for its conference championship this spring and made us raise our game on every court," Southeastern head coach
Jason Hayes said. "We took some positive steps today and we just have to keep working towards our goal of playing our best tennis when conference starts. We have the talent and desire to be successful and I'm pleased with this group's progress."
Southeastern took the early lead after a competitive doubles point. On No. 1, the Southeastern duo of
Putri Insani and
Ximena Yanez (1-1) handed JSU's Sofia Beggiatto and Lucia Placidi a 6-2 defeat.
After the Lady Tigers evened the match with a win on No. 2, the SLU pair of
Flory Bierma and
Kim Bohlen (2-0) put Southeastern on top with a 7-6 win over JSU's Robin Alston and Noelle Frenzel at No. 3.
In singles play, Insani (1-0) cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win over Maria Martinez on the top court. On No. 4,
Polina Sleptsova (1-1) earned her first dual match collegiate singles victory with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Beggiatto.
