Lions Fight Hard in 69-52 Loss to Texas A&M

Eight three-pointers Not Enough for SLU in Loss to Aggies

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Southeastern Louisiana men's basketball fought hard before falling to SEC foe Texas A&M, 69-52, Tuesday night on the road at Reed Arena.

The Lions (1-6) were led by senior Keon Clergeot with 14 points including 5-for-5 from the free throw line. Sophomore Nick Caldwell came off the bench to aid SLU with 11 points on 4-for-6 shooting and drilled three three-pointers.

The Aggies (4-1) got a game-high 20 points and 10 rebounds from Emanuel Miller (6-7, 208, F). The sophomore tallied his third double-double in four games this season. Andre Gordon chipped in with 10 points to help TAMU hold off the Lions.

Despite shooting just 7-for-20 from the field in the first half, SLU was still in the hunt at halftime trailing, 31-19. The Lions stayed within 10-12 points of the Aggies until the 12:21 mark of the second half. However, Texas A&M slowly began to pull away building a 20-point lead, 57-37, with 7:49 remaining as TAMU remained unbeaten at home this year (4-0).

Southeastern drilled eight three-pointers for the game but was outrebounded by the Aggies, 33-22.

SLU did show signs of improvement at the free throw line shooting 10-for-14 (71 percent) following a 5-for-17 night Wednesday at Louisiana Tech. Texas A&M was 15-for-19 (78 percent) from the charity stripe.

The Lions also assisted on 12 of their 17 field goals led by sophomore Isiah Kirby dishing out four.

The Lions will have an eight-day gap in between games before they take on Grambling Wednesday, Dec. 23 at 3 p.m. on the road.  The game will mark the eighth of a season-opening 9-game road trip.
