HAMMOND, La. – Seven student-athletes have chosen to continue their athletic and academic endeavors as members of the Southeastern Louisiana softball program beginning in the 2022 season, SLU head coach
Rick Fremin announced on Wednesday.
The group of Lady Lion additions includes four in-state products – utility player Blaire Bizette (New Roads, Louisiana/Catholic-Pointe Coupee HS), infielder Sarah Diaz (Lafayette, Louisiana/Lafayette Christian Academy), utility player Elise Jones (Livingston, Louisiana/Doyle HS) and utility player Madison&npsb;Watson (Baton Rouge, Louisiana/Parkview Baptist School).
Fremin and his staff rounded out the class with three out-of-state additions. Utility player Taylor Duncan (Lake, Mississippi/Lake HS), pitcher Alexis Findley (Jefferson City, Missouri/Blair Oaks HS) and pitcher Leah Marshall (Mississauga, Ontario, Canada/Mount Dora Christian (FL) HS) will come to the Pelican State. All seven players will be incoming freshmen in 2022.
"We believe – top-to-bottom – that this is our best signing class since I've been here," Fremin, who is entering his sixth season, commented. "We're improving our pitching depth and defense, while also adding power to our lineup. This group will have a positive impact on our program right away."
SLU is scheduled to open the 2021 season on Feb. 12, hosting Southern Illinois-Edwardsville at 5 p.m. at North Oak Park on the opening day of the Lion Classic.
