HAMMOND, La. – The Hitmen completed its comeback from a 3-1 series deficit to win the Southeastern Louisiana Softball Fall World Series

The Hitmen tied the series with an 11-6 victory in Game 6. Game 7 was an extra inning played under international tie-breaker rules. The Hitmen scored in the bottom half of the frame to win the series.

The Hitmen's offensive attack in Game 6 was led by Briahna Bennett, who finished 3-for-4 with two home runs and five RBI. Cameron Goodman scored a team-high three runs and had an inside-the-park home run. Lindsey Rizzo and Anna Rodenberg each scored two runs. Alyssa Romano (1-1) earned the win in the circle, allowing three hits and striking out four in 3.2 innings.

Lexi Johnson and Cameron Beal led the Headhunters with two hits apiece. Johnson and Aeriyl Mass each had two runs scored, while Johnson led her team with two RBI.

The Hitmen took a big lead versus Ellie DuBois (0-1) in the bottom of the first inning. Gina Escude walked and eventually scored due to an error. Cameron Goodman scored the frame's second run on a wild pitch. Later in the inning, Bennett chased DuBois from the game with a towering three-run home run over the left centerfield fence to give the Hitmen a 5-0 lead.

The Hitmen added to their advantage after an inside-the-park solo home run by Goodman in the bottom of the second inning. In the third, Bennett padded the lead with a two-run shot over the left field fence that gave the Hitmen an 8-0 cushion.

A pair of errors resulted in the Headhunters' first run in the top of the fourth inning. An RBI double by Johnson followed by an RBI triple by Audrey Greely cut the Hitmen lead to 8-3.

The Hitmen got the three runs back in the bottom of the sixth inning. Two runs came home on an error, while Madisen Blackford plated another run with a sacrifice fly to take an 11-3 lead.

The Headhunters made one last rally in the top of the eighth inning. Johnson doubled home DuBois, then Beal and Mass singled home a pair of runs. However, MC Comeaux forced Ella Manzer to ground into a game-inning double play.

In the top of the first inning of Game 7, Mass was placed on second to open the frame. Comeaux (2-0) retired Sadie Hewitt, DuBois and Johnson to keep the Headhunters off the board.

In the bottom of the first, Goodman was placed on second and bunted over to third by Rizzo. One batter later, Blackford hit a grounder deep enough in the hole at second to allow Goodman to score the series winning run.

SLU is scheduled to open the 2021 season on Feb. 12, hosting Southern Illinois-Edwardsville at 5 p.m. at North Oak Park on the opening day of the Lion Classic.
