HUNTSVILLE, Texas – The Southeastern Louisiana men's basketball team eyes a second straight win Wednesday night when they face reigning Southland Conference regular season champion Sam Houston State on the road at Johnson Coliseum at 6:30 p.m.
 
The Lions (4-10, 1-2 Southland) picked up their first Southland win of the season Saturday afternoon after defeating Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (5-10, 1-3 Southland), 84-80, on the road. Junior Pape Diop led SLU with 23 points while senior Von Julien scored a career-high 20 points and converted 10 straight free throws in the final 1:54 to seal the win.
 
Southeastern's Ty Brewer (6-7, F) enters Wednesday's contest fourth in the Southland in both scoring and rebounding. The Meridian, Mississippi native is averaging 16.9 points and 8.4 rebounds per game. Julien, out of Reserve, Louisiana, leads the conference in assists (4.8 apg).
 
The Bearkats (10-5, 3-1 Southland) are coming off their first home loss of the season following a 70-58 setback to Nicholls Saturday afternoon. The Bearkats are 47-7 at Johnson Coliseum since the start of the 2016-17 season and 7-1 this year. The Lions will be looking for their first win in Huntsville since Jan.9, 2008 when SLU edged the SHSU, 61-58.
 
SHSU is led by sophomore guard Zach Nutall (6-3, 190) in scoring. The Bryan, Texas native leads the team in scoring (14.7 ppg) but didn't play against Nicholls Saturday.
 
The Bearkats lead the all-time series with the Lions, 31-16. SHSU defeated SLU in the team's only matchup last year, 62-52, at the University Center. However, Southeastern knocked off the Bearkats, 89-79, in the 2018 Southland Conference Tournament semifinals.
