Southeastern Drops Spring Opener at Tulane

Lions host UL Lafayette on Sunday at 1 p.m.

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana pair of Kim Bohlen and Flory Bierma picked up a doubles victory, but it was not enough for the Lion tennis team, which opened its spring schedule with a 4-0 loss to Tulane Saturday afternoon at the City Park Tennis Center.

Southeastern (0-1) fell in a pair of doubles matches and three singles matches to take the loss. Tulane improved to 4-0 with the win.

"I really liked what I saw and we did some good things today," SLU head coach Jason Hayes said. "We were very positive and supportive of each other. I was really pleased with the attitude we competed with today. Tulane is an aggressive, well-coached team that's set up for a very strong spring."

Southeastern took the early advantage in doubles, as Bohlen and Bierma defeated the Green Wave pair of Christina Sisti and Laura Fabrizi, 6-2, on the No. 3 doubles court. Tulane countered with wins on the top two courts to take a 1-0 lead.

"It was a really great start for Flory and Kim in doubles play," Hayes commented. "We're excited about their potential as a pair."

Tulane extended the lead to 2-0 with a straight-set win on No. 4, as Adelaide Lavery defeated Polina Sleptsova, 6-2, 6-2. On No. 2, Lahari Yelamanchili topped Bierma, 6-1, 6-2.

The Green Wave clinched the match on the No. 3 court, as Lauren Gish handled SLU's Kyra Akinnibi, 6-2, 6-3. When the match was stopped, Bohlen was up a set on Fabrizi on No. 6, while Teodora Mitrovic held a 5-4 first-set lead on Sisti on the No. 5 court.
