Volleyball Hosts Home Opener, SLU Lion Up Classic

HAMMOND, La. – Southeastern Louisiana opens the home portion of its 2019 schedule Thursday at 7 p.m. with a Southland Conference match against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in the University Center.
 
Both Southeastern (2-5, 0-0 Southland) and A&M-Corpus Christi (3-4, 0-0 Southland) will also participate in the SLU Lion Up Classic, playing a round-robin schedule Friday and Saturday against California Baptist (1-5) and Jackson State (3-5).
 
Admission to all matches at the University Center this week is free. Fans are asked to enter the arena at Gate 3. Lady Lion volleyball posters and magnet schedules will be available in the Fan Zone.
 
The new Southeastern Sports Network will offer a free video stream of each Southeastern match this week. Tune in online at www.LionSports.net or the Lions' Gameday Experience app for Android or iOS devices. Fans can also watch on Southeastern's YouTube channel (/SLUathletics) with any mobile, tablet or smart TV device (e.g., Apple TV, Amazon Fire, Android TV and Roku).
 
Live stats are available for Thursday's home opener and every match in the SLU Lion Up Classic.
 
SLU NOTES
  • Southeastern's main offensive attack is spread among four players averaging at least a pair of kills per set, including Karlee Wilkerson (2.54 k/set), Sam Gomez (2.38 k/set), Caroline Golden (2.35 k/set) and Jodi Edo (2.31 k/set).
  • Gomez, a junior from Mandeville, Louisiana, ranks third in the Southland with a .360 attack percentage.
  • Golden leads the squad with 11 service aces and ranks ninth in the Southland with an average of 0.42 aces per set. She also leads Southeastern with 2.81 digs per set.
  • Freshmen Ariana Hebert (5.42 a/set) and Baylee Laskoskie (5.11 a/set) have split setting duties thus far in 2019.
  • Edo (0.92 b/set) leads a trio of blockers, including Gomez (0.58 b/set) and Wilkerson (0.58 b/set), that have compiled 54 blocks through the first seven matches.
 
LAST MATCH
Southeastern Louisiana dropped its final volleyball match Saturday at the Saluki Bash in Carbondale, Illinois, falling despite a late rally against host Southern Illinois, 25-23, 25-15, 22-25, 25-22, at the Banterra Center.
 
Golden turned in another double-double with a match-high 12 kills and 15 digs. The junior from Mandeville also served up a pair of aces. Edo added 10 more kills for the Lady Lions. Laskoskie dished out 25 assists to aid the offensive effort and Hebert chipped in another 13.
 
Edo, a senior from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, had a hand in six of Southeastern's eight total blocks, including a pair of solo blocks. Alexis Pratt (14) and Jolie Hidalgo (13) also contributed double-digit dig totals.
 
UP NEXT
Southeastern returns to the road next week for a nonconference match Wednesday at Mississippi Valley State and a trio of matchups, Friday and Saturday, in the Comfort Inn-vitational at Morehead, Kentucky.
