HAMMOND, La. – After helping Southeastern Louisiana to a 4-1 week, Lady Lion freshman
Sophie Hannabas was named the Louisiana Sports Writers Association Softball Pitcher of the Week in an announcement from the LSWA on Tuesday.
Hannabas is the second SLU player to earn Louisiana accolades this season. Teammate
Madisen Blackford was named LSWA Hitter of the Week on April 8.
Hannabas, a native of Mansfield, Texas, opened the week by tossing five shutout innings in a 7-0 victory over Jackson State. On Friday, she tossed 4.1 innings of shutout relief in SLU's 5-4 comeback win over Central Arkansas that clinched a spot for the Lady Lions in the Southland Conference Tournament. For the week, she was 2-0 with an 0.00 ERA in 11.1 innings of work.
The Southeastern southpaw has consistently improved in her debut collegiate season. Now 6-4 overall with a 3.52 ERA and one save, she has been one of the primary arms, along with
Alley McDonald,
Tanner Wright and
Karlee Kraft, that has contributed to SLU's 2.88 team earned run average.
