HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana softball team will return to action on Tuesday, hosting ULM for a 5 p.m. non-conference contest at North Oak Park.
Tuesday's game between SLU (19-14) and ULM (5-29) will feature the Flood the Field promotion, as the first 200 Southeastern students will receive a free t-shirt and snack. Non-Southeastern students and other fans can take advantage of a BOGO ticket offer for the SLU-ULM contest.
Tuesday's game will also feature a Cane's Challenge. If the Lady Lions score three or more runs, fans can take their game ticket or student coupon to their participating Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers to receive a free combo with the purchase of another of equal or greater value.
The Lady Lions-Warhawks meeting will be broadcast by the Southeastern Channel on the Southland Digital Network at
www.Southland.org/live and via the Southland apps available for iPhone, Android, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV and Roku.
Southeastern will be looking to bounce back after suffering a three-game series sweep at Southland Conference foe Northwestern State this past weekend in Natchitoches.
The Lady Lions are still leading the league with a .301 batting average, as
Ella Manzer (.372, 3
rd),
Jaquelyn Ramon (.354, 8
th) and
Mima Doucet (.333, 10
th) rank among the Southland leaders.
Lindsey Rizzo (.330) and
Rebecca Skains (.324) are the other top hitters for average for SLU, while Ramon leads the Southland with 31 runs scored.
Skains is fourth in the Southland with 27 RBI, while her league-high 14 doubles rank fourth nationally.
Bobbi Smith leads the league with four triples, while Skains, Manzer and
Madisen Blackford have two home runs apiece.
Southeastern leads the nation by a wide margin with 153 stolen bases, led by Ramon's Division I-leading 48 steals. Ramon, Smith (21, 4
th), Rizzo (21, 4
th), Doucet (17, 7
th) and
Pryscilla Prince (13, 9
th) all are in the Southland's top 10. The Lady Lion quintet has more combined stolen bases than any other team in Division I.
The Southland and school career record holder with 169 stolen bases, Ramon is currently the active Division I leader and is 12
th on the D-I all-time stolen base career leaderboard.
The SLU pitching staff carries a 2.65 earned run average into Tuesday's contest. The Lady Lions' top two pitchers –
Alley McDonald (6-4, 1.52 ERA, 1 save) and
Tanner Wright (5-4, 1.81 ERA) – both rank among the Southland leaders in wins and ERA.
Karlee Kraft (3-0, 2.16 ERA),
Sophie Hannabas (3-3, 4.00 ERA, 1 save),
Briahna Bennett (2-3, 7.00 ERA),
Shelby Sitzman (0-0, 4.94 ERA),
Ali McCoy (0-0, 5.60 ERA) and
Caitlyn VanHemelryck (0-0, 4.67 ERA) have also contributed in the circle for Southeastern.
The Lady Lion arms will face a ULM lineup that is hitting .233 as a team. Sydney McKay has a team-best .421 batting average, while Jessie Watts (2 HR, 17 RBI) and Jayden Mount (2 HR, 13 RBI) are the other top hitters for the Warhawks.
ULM enters Tuesday's contest with a 5.66 team earned run average. Watts (0-6, 5.08 ERA), Adrianna Chavarria (3-8, 3.90 ERA) and Murphy Williams (1-8, 5.25 ERA) are the primary arms for the Warhawks.
Following Tuesday's contest, SLU will be back on the road for Southland Conference play. The Lady Lions will be at UIW for a three-game series, which opens with a 5 p.m. doubleheader on Friday and concludes on Saturday at noon.
