THIBODAUX, La. – Jeremiah Jefferson scored 28 points to lead Nicholls to a 69-63 win over the Southeastern Louisiana men's basketball team Saturday at Stopher Gym in the regular season finale.

Marlain Veal led the Lions with 17 points while
Moses Greenwood scored 16. The Lions hit 11 three-pointers (11-for-26) but struggled from inside the arch shooting just 12-for-31.

Jefferson finished 10-for-21 including 6-for-8 from the three-point line. Jeremiah Buford and Daniel Regis each added 10 points for the Colonels.

The Lions outrebounded the Colonels 37-33 and got 24 points in the paint to 20 for Nicholls. Southeastern also had 21 second chances points to 10 for the Colonels.

In the first half, Southeastern seemed in control leading by double digits for much of the half. The Lions led 29-18 with 6:46 to remaining but the Colonels rallied to cut the lead to 35-33 at halftime.

In the second half, the game was up for grabs when Greenwood tied the game at 47-47 with 13:02 to go. However, the Lions went cold not scoring for over seven minutes allowing the Colonels to take a 61-49 lead with 4:40 to go. SLU scored six straight points to cut the deficit to 61-55 but Nicholls hit eight straight free throws to hold off the Lions.

Southeastern finished the regular season winning 12 of their last 15 games after starting 4-12 and 0-3 in the Southland.

The Lions will play Thursday at 7:30 in the quarterfinals of the Southland Conference Tournament at the Merrell Center in Katy, Texas against the winner of sixth-seed Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (14-17, 9-9 Southland) and seventh-seed Central Arkansas (13-18, 8-10 Southland) who play Wednesday night at 7:30 in Katy.
