HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana softball team will close out its four-game road swing at Alcorn State on Tuesday.
First pitch for the nonconference contest between the Lady Lions (15-11) and host Lady Braves (2-13) is set for 1 p.m. Fans can receive in-game updates at

Southeastern opened the road portion of its Southland Conference schedule by taking two of three at Houston Baptist this past weekend. In Saturday's rubber game,
Rebecca Skains' RBI double in the top of the 11
th inning proved the game-winner in a 4-3 Lady Lion victory.
Skains' clutch hitting backed up a dominant pitching performance by
Alley McDonald on Saturday. The Whitehouse, Tennessee product tossed nine innings of shutout relief to allow SLU to rally for the series victory.
Southeastern enters Tuesday's contest with a league-best .302 batting average.
Ella Manzer (.397, 2
nd) and
Lindsey Rizzo (.360, 8
th) represent SLU in the Southland top 10. Skains (.348),
Mima Doucet (.333) and
Jaquelyn Ramon (.313) are the other starters with plus-.300 batting averages. Ramon also shares the league lead with 25 runs scored.
Skains leads the league and ranks second in Division I with 12 doubles, while
Bobbi Smith shares the Southland lead with three triples. Skains also sits in fourth place on the conference leaderboard with a team-high 21 runs batted in.
The Lady Lions continue to lead Division I with 121 stolen bases and 4.65 stolen bases per game. Ramon has been the national leader wire-to-wire and has 38 steals thus far in her senior campaign. Ramon (1
st), Smith (19, 3
rd), Rizzo (17, 5
th),
Pryscilla Prince (12, 8
th) and Doucet (11, 9
th) all rank in the Southland top 10 in steals.
Having already etched her name in the school and conference career record books, Ramon is the current active Division I career stolen base leader. Her 159 career steals are the 19
th-highest total all-time in Division I softball history.
Eight different pitchers have combined for a team earned run average of 2.85 for Southeastern – good for third in the Southland Conference. McDonald (4-3, 1.76 ERA, 1 save),
Tanner Wright (4-3, 2.15 ERA),
Sophie Hannabas (3-3, 4.20 ERA, 1 save) and
Karlee Kraft (3-0, 2.28 ERA) have handled the majority of the work, while
Briahna Bennett (1-2, 5.09 ERA),
Shelby Sitzman (0-0, 6.46 ERA),
Ali McCoy (0-0, 10.50 ERA) and
Caitlyn VanHemelryck (0-0, 8.40 ERA) have also seen action.
Alcorn State will be looking to snap a 10-game losing streak on Tuesday. Victoria Tyler (.333, 1 HR, 8 RBI) leads a Lady Brave lineup that is hitting .245 as a team. Paige Taylor (2-5, 3.91 ERA) and Ambria Dorsey (0-8, 5.53 ERA) have split time in the circle for ASU.
The two teams will be meeting for the third time this season, as SLU defeated Alcorn State twice in The Snowman/Alex Wilcox Memorial Tournament at Mississippi State last month. The Lady Lions earned 8-0 and 7-1 victories over the Lady Braves, stealing 18 bases in the two wins in Starkville.
Following Tuesday's game, the Lady Lions return home to host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi for a three-game Southland series at North Oak Park. The series opens with a 4 p.m. doubleheader on Friday and Saturday's series finale is set for noon.
Every home Saturday is Local Heroes Appreciation at North Oak Park, as all first responders, service members and military personnel will receive a discounted ticket with a valid ID.
