KATY, TEXAS – The third-seeded Southeastern Louisiana men's basketball team will face seventh-seeded Central Arkansas Thursday in the quarterfinals of the Southland Conference Tournament at 7:30 p.m. at the Merrell Center.
 
SLU (16-15, 12-6 Southland) enters Thursday's game winners of 12 of their last 15 games leading to a bye in the first round of the tournament.
 
The Bears (14-18, 8-10 Southland) defeated sixth-seeded Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 73-53, Wednesday night in the first round highlighted by 21 points from honorable mention All-Southland selection Thatch Unruh. The senior from Branson, Missouri, shot 4-for-7 from the field including three three-pointers and was 10-for-10 at the free throw line.
 
Southeastern and Central Arkansas will meet for the third time this season Thursday night. The two teams split the season series with the Bears winning at the University Center Jan.5, 73-71, when Matthew Mondesir tipped in an offensive rebound with less than a second remaining.
 
The Lions got their revenge in Conway, Arkansas, Feb. 9 when SLU defeated the Bears, 75-66. Marlain Veal led the Lions with 21 points while Moses Greenwood added 20. Freshman Parker Edwards also provided a spark scoring 16 points off the bench including four three-pointers.
 
SLU is led by first team All-Southland selections Greenwood and Veal.

Greenwood, a Sharon, Mississippi native, leads the team in scoring (17.3 ppg) and rebounding (7.5 rpg). The senior also leads the Southland in field goals made (211).

Veal, a New Orleans, Louisiana product, leads the Lions in assists (137) and steals (58) and is second in scoring (15.8 ppg).
 
The Lions are 9-13 all-time in the Southland Conference Tournament. Southeastern last won the tournament 14 years ago to the day (March 13, 2005) when SLU defeated Northwestern State, 49-42, at Prather Coliseum in Natchitoches, Louisiana, under head coach Billy Kennedy.
