CONWAY, Ark. –The surging Southeastern Louisiana men's basketball team heads back on the road Saturday to face Central Arkansas at the Farris Center 30 minutes after the SLU women's game at 2 p.m. (Approximately 4:30 p.m.)
Â
The Lions (10-13, 6-4 Southland) look to finish the long road trip in style. Southeastern made the eight-hour 550-mile trip to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Wednesday night beating the Islanders, 64-58.
Â
Marlain Veal led the Lions with 27 points while
Moses Greenwood added 17 as the Lions overcame a tough shooting night (19-for-46 for 41 percent) and a thunderous, standing-room-only crowd at Corpus Christi.Â
Â
Veal, the senior from New Orleans, Louisiana, became the third player in SLU history to score over 1,500 points (1,526) and is the all-time leader in games played (121)
Greenwood, a Sharon, Mississippi native, is second all-time in games played (120) and is one point shy of 1,300 points for his career. The Velma Jackson grad is looking to become just the ninth player in SLU history to reach the 1,300-point plateau.
Â
SLU will make the 400-mile six and a half hour trip to Conway Saturday to finish up a 1900-mile round trip this week looking to avenge the loss to UCA earlier this year.Â
Â
Central Arkansas (10-13, 5-5 Southland) defeated the Lions at the University Center Jan. 5, 73-71. The Lions overcame a 16-point second half deficit and took the lead, 62-60, with 3:34 remaining. However, with the game tied at 71-71, UCA's Matthew Mondesir tipped in an offensive rebound with less than a second left to give the Bears the victory.
Â
Southeastern has dusted themselves off nicely since the setback to the Bears. The Lions have won six of their last seven games and are all alone in fourth place in the Southland Conference standings heading into Saturday's showdown.
Â
The Bears, on the other hand, have hit a tough stretch dropping three in a row to Abilene Christian (79-56) and Stephen Austin (105-99) on the road and a home loss to Northwestern State (80-75).
Â
Saturday's game can be heard live in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9), online at
www.LionSports.net/listenlive and via the Lions Game Day Experience, Radio FX and TuneIn Radio apps.
Â
After Saturday's matchup with the Bears, the Lions will return home Wednesday to face Incarnate Word (6-16, 1-8 Southland) at 7 p.m.
