HAMMOND, La – The reigning Southland Conference Champion Southeastern Louisiana men's basketball team roars into Saturday's matchup with McNeese at the University Center at 4 p.m. winners of eight of their last nine games.

Saturday is Military and Local Heroes Appreciation Day, as military and service personnel receive two free tickets by presenting valid ID.

The Lions (12-13, 8-4) are coming off a hard-fought, 80-74 win over Incarnate Word Wednesday night at home.  Senior Moses Greenwood led the Lions with 25 points and 10 rebounds for his ninth double-double of the season.

SLU enters Saturday's contest tied with New Orleans (13-10, 8-4 Southland) for third in the Southland Conference Standings with six games remaining. Southeastern will face UNO Wednesday night at 7 p.m. on the road.

But first, SLU has to contend with McNeese (7-17, 3-8 Southland). The Lions edged the Cowboys, 74-71, Jan. 19 in Lake Charles, Louisiana.

In the Lions win over McNeese, senior Marlain Veal led the Lions scoring 27 points, made five three-pointers and was 10-for-11 from the free throw line. Greenwood added 14 points and nine rebounds while Brandon Gonzalez and Von Julien each had 10.

"I thought we played one of our better games against them," said fifth-year SLU head basketball coach Jay Ladner. "They play differently than any other team in our league. Basically they play a 1-3-1 trap the entire game and that forces you to play in concepts. You have to play against a zone differently fundamentally than man-to-man and that's what they forced us to do. But Marlain had a great game and was able to hit some outside shots to help us win at their place."

McNeese, despite losing four straight games, possesses one of the most prolific post players in the conference in junior Roydell Brown. The New Orleans, Louisiana native is averaging 14.5 points per game and leads the Southland in rebounding (9.5 rpg). Brown, the high school teammate of Veal, has recorded 11 double-doubles.

While Brown has been a rebounding machine, the Lions have more than held their own in the rebounding department. Over the last nine games (8-1), SLU is outrebounding their opponents 306-243.

The Southeastern coaching staff will be supporting Coaches Powering Forward for Autism as they will wear blue puzzle pins to show their support of those on the autism spectrum. Lion fans that wish to show their support can do so on twitter by using #AutismHoops.

After Saturday's game, SLU will go back on the road next week for two huge games at New Orleans Wednesday night at 7 p.m. and will face second-place in the Southland, Abilene Christian Saturday (20-5, 9-3 Southland) at 3:30 p.m.

Saturday's game can be heard live in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9), online at www.LionSports.net/listenlive and via the Lions Game Day Experience, Radio FX and TuneIn Radio apps.
