Ragin’ Cajuns Rally Past Lions, 98-81

SLU's First Half Wiped Away by 26-6 Run

LAFAYETTE, La. –  UL Lafayette rallied from a 14-point first half deficit to defeat the Southeastern Louisiana men's basketball team, 98-81, Tuesday night at the Cajundome
 
The Lions (2-6) came out on fire hitting exploding to a 14-point lead late in the first half, 38-24. However, the Ragin' Cajuns responded finishing the first half on a 19-4 run to take a 43-42 lead at halftime.
 
Early in the second half, SLU's Nick Caldwell drilled a three-pointer to cut UL Lafayette's lead to 55-52 with 15:44 left in the game.
 
The Ragin' Cajuns (5-3) responded with an 11-0 run to take control of the game, 66-52, with 12:51 remaining. The Lions never got closer than 11 the rest of the way as UL Lafayette picked up the win.
 
Jalen Johnson led all scorers with 26 points and ripped down 10 rebounds for the Ragin' Cajuns. Four other players scored in double figures for UL Lafayette including Cedric Russell (16), Kobe Julian (12), Mylik Wilson (11) and P.J. Hardy 10 as the Ragin' Cajuns shot 58 percent (32-for-55) from the field.
 
Sophomore Ty Brewer, once again, led Southeastern with 23 points on 9-for-15 shooting and grabbed seven rebounds. Caldwell, a freshman, added 16 points on 6-for-9 shooting while sophomore Jeremiah Saunders had 12 points on four three-pointers.
 
While the Ragin' Cajuns outrebounded the Lions, 41-27, SLU ripped down 12 offensive rebounds leading to 16 second chance points and also forced UL Lafayette into 19 turnovers.
                                          
Next up, Southeastern will take on SUNO Friday night 7 p.m. at the University Center returning home for the first time since Nov. 17.
