STILLWATER, Okla. – After eight days off, the Southeastern Louisiana men's basketball team returns to action Sunday afternoon when they take on Oklahoma State University in Gallagher Arena at 2 p.m. in SLU's final non-conference game of the season.
Â
The Lions (3-8, 0-1 Southland) continue to show improvements after battling Ole Miss (8-3) Dec. 21 in Jackson, Mississippi before falling short, 83-76. SLU trailed just 73-70 with 2:18 to go before the Rebels went on an 8-2 run to put the game away. Sophomore
Ty Brewer led the Lions with a career-high 30 points. Sophomore
LaQuan Butler, after scoring a career-high 17 points against Lamar, turned in another solid performance scoring 12 points on 5-for-9 shooting.
Â
However, the Lions were outrebounded, 36-24, and shot just 2-for-5 from the free-throw line while Ole Miss was 16-for-25.
Â
SLU turns their attention to Sunday's opponent, Oklahoma State (8-3). The Cowboys are looking to rebound from an 86-66 loss to the University of Minnesota (6-5) Dec. 21 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Â
The Cowboys, however, boast wins over Ole Miss and Syracuse as they prepare for SLU.
OSU features a balanced scoring attack led by Lindy Waters, III and Issac Likekele at 13.7 points per game. Yor Anei (11.2 ppg) and Cameron McGriff (10 ppg) are also viable options for the Cowboys.Â
Â
Despite a 12-20 campaign last season, the Cowboys, under second-year head coach Mike Boyton, Jr., have posted seven wins against Top 25 team the past two seasons.
Â
As for the Lions and Cowboys series, this is the fifth all-time matchup between the two teams with OSU winning the previous four. SLU fell to the Cowboys, 83-55, Nov. 14, 2014. More notably, The Lions took on the Cowboys in the first round of the 2005 NCAA Tournament with OSU winning, 63-50.
Â
ESPN+, available on www.WatchESPN.com and the WatchESPN app, will provide a video stream of the game. Web links to video and stats are available on the basketball schedule page at
