JACKSON, Miss. –
The Southeastern Louisiana men's basketball team takes on Ole Miss Saturday afternoon in non-conference action at the Mississippi Coliseum in Jackson at 1 p.m.

The Lions (3-7, 0-1 Southland) are looking for their first victory away from home this season. SLU dropped a tough one Wednesday night in the Southland Conference opener at Lamar, 79-73, in overtime. Freshman Byron Smith and sophomore LaQuan Butler each scored career highs for SLU.

Smith, a Palatka, Florida native, scored 18 points on 6-for-6 shooting including four three-pointers. Butler, out of Benton Harbor, Michigan, added 17 points including several acrobatic lay-ups and three three-pointers. Junior Pape Diop added 14 points and 11 rebounds for his first career double-double. However, the Lions were outrebounded 51-38 and allowed 26 second chance points on 23 offensive rebounds.

The Rebels (7-3) enter Saturday's game coming off back-to-back wins at home over Middle Tennessee State and Cal State Bakersfield. Ole Miss is led by preseason first team All-SEC selection Breein Tyree (6-2, 195, Sr., G). The Somerset, New Jersey native is averaging 18.2 points per game which is fourth in the SEC.

The Lions and Rebels met last year in Jackson with Ole Miss picking up the win, 69-47. Southeastern's Moses Greenwood led SLU with 20 points on 9-for-10 shooting but SLU shot just 19-for-51 (37 percent) as team. Despite the loss, the Lions held Tyree to just three points on 1-for-5 shooting.

The SEC Network+, available on www.WatchESPN.com and the WatchESPN app, will provide a video stream of the game. Web links to video and stats are available on the basketball schedule page at www.LionSports.net.
