LAFAYETTE, La. – After a week-long layoff, the Southeastern Louisiana men's basketball team returns to action Tuesday night on the road when they face in-state rival UL Lafayette at the Cajundome at 7 p.m.
The Lions (2-5) will eye the momentum they picked up in a hard-fought loss to Vanderbilt, 78-70, Nov. 25 in Nashville, Tennessee. SLU pushed the Commodores to the brink taking a 42-40 second half lead and withstood a 15-4 Vanderbilt run to cut the Commodores' lead to 63-59 with 4:34 remaining. Vanderbilt, however, sank five free throws in the final minute to hold off the Lions. Sophomore
Ty Brewer led Southeastern with a career-high 26 points and pulled down 11 rebounds for his third double-double of the season.
Brewer, a native of Meridian, Mississippi, continues to lead the team in scoring and rebounding, averaging 15.9 points and 8.4 rebounds per game.
The Ragin Cajuns (4-3) will be looking to bounce back from a 92-67 loss to UC Irvine Nov. 26 in Las Vegas, Nevada at the MGM Resorts Tournament. UL Lafayette will return to the confines of the Cajundome for Tuesday's matchup with the Lions where they are 27-5 since the start of the 2017-18 season including 3-0 this season.
The Ragin' Cajuns are led by junior forward
Jalen Johnson (6-7, 205). The Baton Rouge, Louisiana native leads the team in scoring averaging 16.6 points per game on 47 percent shooting (38 for-80).
The Ragin' Cajuns leads the all-time series 33-20 over SLU including a 73-72 victory over the Lions last year at the University Center in a game that came down to the final possession. Southeastern held a 69-63 lead with 1:33 to go before the Ragin' Cajuns rallied back to take a one point lead, 71-70 with 27 seconds left on a three-pointer by P.J. Hardy. Southeastern regained the lead on a jumper by
Von Julien with 19 ticks left. However, Jakeenan Gant scored on a dunk with three seconds left to propel the Ragin' Cajuns to the win.
The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ which is available on www.WatchESPN.com and the WatchESPN app. Web links to video and stats are available on the basketball schedule page at

Tuesday's game marks a four-game stretch away from home for SLU. The Lions will return home for the first time since Nov. 17, when they host SUNO Friday at 7 p.m.
